The first day

Today is my first day to "blog". Don't I feel important!! Actually, I am very excited. I hope to meet lots of people to chat with-- either about dolls or just life in general.

I will be adding links to doll information so we can all learn and share. If you have info to share, e-mail be at gloria@mydollcastle.com. This would be info in general, not specifically trying to sell something.

  1. I had the opportunity to drive a doll collector home last night and see her dolls and how she displays them. She has Linda Rick's Key To My Heart dolls, Precious Moments, Native American doll, Ashton- Drake, and many more. They are displayed beautifully, on shelves, in cribs, sitting at a desk, and more. She really enjoys her dolls. I hope all you collectors out there are displaying your dolls, and not keeping them in boxes. Here at My Doll Castle, we so enjoy rearranging the dolls, putting them in different settings. I do the same at my house. It's fun!

  2. It's sunny and warm in Claremore, OK today. My Doll Castle's display window looks cherry and bright- decorated for St. Patrick's day. Whether you are Irish or not, it's a great setting for dolls. There are numerous dolls in green costumes in the window. There are dolls from Virginia Turner, Charisma, Adora, Linda Rick, Karito Kids, and more.

  4. Getting to My Doll Castle on a Saturday morning takes a very long time. Why? Because all the old ranchers and cowboys are driving to town -- very slowly in their beat-up old and new disel trucks. And of course they are using both lanes!

  5. Incredible how many doll artists there are out there-- My Doll Castle has dolls from many artist that live all over the world. Barry Cathers, Hildegard Gunzel, Angela Sutter, just to name a few.

  7. Met the sweetest lady the other day here at My Doll Castle. She is married for 68 years, but sadly, her husband had a severe stroke last year and is in the Veteren's Hospital here in Claremore. She had the best attitude!! All about being blessed with a great life and her sweet husband and sons! So refreshing to see an old person not complaining-- but being grateful!

  8. The Lennon Sisters are an American Institution. America fell in love with them as the girls next door. For 13 years on The Lawrence Welk Show, the Lennon sisters charmed the nation with their sweet-voiced harmonies. In the 1970’s, the sisters preformed regularly on The Andy Williams Show and toured with Williams across the country. From 1994 to 2004, the quartet performed at the Welk Champagne Theater in Branson, Missouri. Peggy and Dianne have retired. Kathy and Janet, along with their younger sister, Mimi, still perform in Branson. Called “American’s Sweet hearts of song”, America still adores them today.
The Lennon's love for one another inspired the country. Ever since they were little children, even before America embraced them, Kathy and Janet were inseparable. Caring for one another, sharing everything, they were best pals in every sense. Recognizing their special and unique bond, their mother, Sis Lennon, and grandmother, Nana, hand made a pair of soft cloth rag dolls that resembled the loving sisters - a brunette doll for Kathy and a blond doll for Janet. To Kathy and Janet, ages 6 and 3 respectively, these dolls were best pals - just like they were.
Now, Kathy and Janet Lennon have painstakingly replicated the original dolls hand sewn by Sis Lennon and Nana. While it was a real challenge to create an exact duplicate of the dolls and capture their traditional embroidered faces, yarn hair and dresses (right down to the white pantaloons, shoes and long knit stockings), it was a matter of simplicity naming them, Best Pals!
Best Pals has branched out with more cloth dolls, CDs of children songs, Lennon Sisters Cut-out dolls, and more.

My Doll Castle is located in historic downtown Claremore. Opened for just two years, the store has hosted numerous doll artist signings. On Saturday, June 5th, Kathy and Janet Lennon will be at My Doll Castle from 1pm to 4pm. Owner, Gloria Pierce, is very excited. “These are two wonderful famous, yet approachable, ladies. We couldn’t be more grateful they consented to come and show their Best Pals line right here in Claremore.

  9. "Love Takes Wing" is sculpted in Sandra Bilotto's signature style, with a fresh and timeless look to her beautiful features. Her expressive face is captured in hand-painted porcelain. Her shining dark hair is embellished with a gleaming, beaded and feathered headdress, which draws attention to her radiant beauty as she releases the butterfly and looks upward toward the heavens.

The "Love Takes Wing" bride is beautifully costumed in soft, cream-coloured faux suede that drapes beautifully over her slender body, accented with deep fringe, and snow-white real feathers. On the bodice, a glittering, beaded butterfly spreads its wings.. and you will find tiny, golden filigree butterflies on this bride's removable train, and also on her sandals.

Overall, there are more than 1,500 hand-sewn glass beads adding sparkling richness and elegance to this bride's costuming and jewellery! Doll measures 22" tall.

  12. Yesterday, two ladies returned to My Doll Castle. They'd been in several times and had bought dolls for grand-daughters. This time one of the ladies finally broke down and got a dol for herself. She'd talked about it and really wanted one. She got "Spice", a Key To My Heart Linda Rick doll. I think she will be happy with her. She's a very pretty doll, with long brown curls.

  26. I got an e-mail from DHL saying they couldn't deliver a package due to wrong address. And then it said to print attachment label and go to DHL store. I thought this was wierd. Well, I found a phone # for DHL and on their answering machine it said "if you got an e-mail...... do not open the attachment--- it contains a virus"

Why do people do that? Anyway, I had a feeling it was bogus cuz how would they know my e-mail address?

Terrible, stupid people in this world.

  27. I have decided I am a 'jack of all trades, master of none". I can do many things-- but nothing to the fullest. Example: I do bookkeeping-- but can't do taxes. I cook and bake - a lot-- but can't say I'm a 'chef"-- as in make up recipes and cook in a resturant. I can sell dolls-- but do I know all there is about dolls -- not even close-- I know nothing about antique dolls, only the latest out. And there are so many artists, I can't say I know of them all.
I can ride a horse-- have put many miles on a horse-- but can I jump, play polo, etc? No-- again, no master. I can water ski-- but still use 2 skiis-- so far from master of that. I can read and have read many, many books-- but do I read fast as in speed-read? No, not even close. I use a computer every day and the internet. But if something gets screwed up, I can't fix it. And may times, it takes me ages to get to where I want to on the internet. I could go on an on... but surfice it to say..... I am not a pro at anything...

  32. Andrea Arcello is a world renowned doll artist who is recognized for her most astonishingly realistic and expressive silicone dolls. She is now offering the very first consumer friendly version of her best dolls in soft vinyl. “Araya” is hand crafted in high quality materials. Her hair is micro rooted using wispy mohair for the softest baby look instead of a wig. Her fingernails and toenails are expertly hand painted; and she has a soft jointed cloth body for that real baby feel. She is approximately 21” with bent legs.
“Araya Sun” wears a dazzlingly handmade summer frock with ribbon rosettes and rose insert lace adorning the front. Delicate white lace garnishes the bottom of the attached slip so that it is visible from beneath the dress. Her elegant pantaloons are decorated with insert, eyelet, edging lace, and ribbon which makes her costume irresistibly unique and eye-catching!
She is approx. 21" and sells for 198.99 plus shipping.

  63. I was thrilled to learn My Doll Castle won the window display for the Downtown Claremore Lilac Festival (held last Saturday). But in all honesty, the credit goes to the beautiful dolls. Virginia Turner's Rochelle is perfect with her white and purple dress (even purple butterfly decals in her dress. And Turner's Ilena is standing there holding her 'purse' with carasol horses on it and wearing a deep purple dress with a white pinafore. Then there are the Linda Rick frilly dolls in lavender and purple dresses. There's Pita, a Karito Kid doll, in lavender next to a Diamond Design birthstone doll (Amystist for Feburary). Also, a couple of JC Toys baby dolls dressed in purple and of course, a few Precious Moments. So that's who gets the credit for winning the contest-- all the dolls and their srtists!

  67. ok, the morning didn't start out real good. Woke up at 5AM to find the electric was out-- had servere storms in Claremore -- well, northeast Oklahoma last night. Luckily, I had hot water for a shower-- couldn't dry my hair so 'scrunched' it. Then there was the dilemna of getting the electric garage door open without electric! I unlatched it and pulled it up-- to get dirty water and mud thrown on my head! ok, deep breath, then figure out where the pole is to hold up the door --- can't find pole....hmmmm....the door is open 3/4 of the way....maybe back out the car and if it hits "oops, I thought it'd fit...and get a new car!" ok, Gloria, terrible thought, so kept looking for the pole and finally found it. Another 5 minutes just to figure out how to get the pole adjusted to hold the door. Finally, drive out of the garage to My Doll Castle, hoping there was electric there. And there was! Yeah! All dolls are fine and opened the store on time. The day is getting better.

  79. All About Ginny Dolls:
Ginny was one of the most popular 8 inch child dolls of all time. Introduced in 1951, Ginny had the height of her popularity during the 1950s, but she is still in production today. She has always had a panoply of clothing and accessories available for her, and her iconic charm created many competitors and copy cats, including Madame Alexander's Wendy doll.
Years of Production of Ginny Dolls:
Ginny was officially introduced in 1951, although she had an unnamed predecessor produced by Vogue Dolls. Ginny has been in almost continuous production ever since.
    Company That Produced Ginny Dolls:
Jennie Graves wass the creator of Ginny (named after her daugher Virginia) and the owner of the Vogue Doll Company. Vogue produced Ginny dolls from their inception through 1972. After 1972, Ginny was produced by a succession of companies including Tonka Corporation, Lesney Products Corporation, Meritus Industries and R.Dakin and Company. In 1995, The Vogue Doll Company re-formulated, and they still produce Ginny today.
    Material, Size and Characteristics:
Ginny is an 8 inch hard plastic or hard vinyl doll. She has sleep eyes, a wig, and jointing at her neck, shoulders, and hips. In the past few years, a mini Ginny doll that is only 5 inches tall has also been produced.

  83. Ok, yesterday I was on KTUL "Good Morning Tulsa". It was live from My Doll Castle! Very exciting. Christie interviewed me and we spoke about the Lennon Sisters coming here on June 5th. Then we talked about dolls and the camara man showed lots of the dolls we have here in the store. This was my second time on the show. I think that justifies calling me a tv star-- ya think? And let's see... been on Billy Parker Big Country Junction radio show several times. So that must mean I'm a big radio star too! Ok, maybe not...

This is just one of the many Middleton dolls that are coming in next week to My Doll castle. So excited, especially about the Newborn Nursery! That's right-- the little girls get to pick out their baby and adopt her/him. I'll help them fill out the birth certificate!

  198. Another cold day here in Claremore-- but at least it is sunny. Not too many shoppers today even though it is Saturday. Out of money because of Christmas or perhaps staying home to be warm.
